Job Description

 

RESOURCE NURSE / NURSING SUPERVISOR POSITION

This is a unique position for an experienced Registered Nurse which requires flexibility and agility.  The role requires one to help educate, audit, and support staff with duties, staffing, taking an assignment as needed, act in a supervisory capacity when necessary, and be direct support to staff and leadership.

Resource Nurse Responsibilities:

·         Assumes patient care assignments as needed

·         Provides support with educating staff/precepting/ supporting leadership initiatives

·         Possess rehab knowledge base and functions as a resources for staff when they have questions or need assistance with questions or patient needs.

·         Oversees care treatment and services of patient care provided by nursing staff on the assigned unit and shift

·         Actively participates in clinical audits as assigned by Nurse Manager and CNO

·         Functions as a team player by assisting other co-workers with direct patient care, answering lights, and other duties as needed.

·         Demonstrates knowledge of compliance with all policies including but not limited to medication administration and patient care activities.

·         Communicates and collaborates with other departments to coordinate care

·         Successfully completes all assigned training on or before due date and annual skills competency as determined by the hospital based on new responsibilities, specialized equipment, high risk/problem prone/or low volume procedures including but not limited to waived tested, application of restraints, and emergency response techniques

 

Acting Supervisor Responsibilities (as needed):

 

·         Supervises the provision of nursing care, treatment, and services on assigned shift or unit insuring all patient care activities are completed as required.

·         Maintains professional licensure, clinical competencies, and required certifications

·         Insures appropriate staffing is necessary to provide nursing care to patients.

·         Adjust staffing levels and patient assignments in accordance with budgeted nursing hours per patient day.

·         Coordinates administrative and clinical activities, in nursing and interdepartmentally, so that optimum patient care is provided.

·         Assumes responsibility for nursing staff during assigned shift

·         Takes on call time for Nursing Administration when necessary

·         Serves as a liaison between nursing management and staff on assigned shift and unit

·         Anticipates and responds to patient and family complaints timely, mitigating concerns as soon as possible and following up with appropriate nursing management

·         Organizes, plans, and manages time effectively to complete assignments.

·         Assumes patient care assignments as needed

·         Actively participates in clinical audits as assigned by Nurse Manager and CNO

·         Serves as the Rapid Response and Code Team captain

·         Accurately process patient in Patcom including

·         Successfully completes all assigned training on or before due date and annual skills competency as determined by the hospital based on new responsibilities, specialized equipment, high risk/problem prone/or low volume procedures including but not limited to waived tested, application of restraints, and emergency response techniques

License or Certification:
- Current RN licensure appropriate to state regulations (unrestricted)
- BLS certification with ACLS certification to be obtained within one year of hire or entry in to position
- CRRN certification to be obtained within a year of meeting the eligibility requirement to sit for the examination
Education, Training and Years of Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field preferred
- Two years recent (within the last 5 years) experience in an inpatient hospital setting
- Served in leadership roles such as charge nurse or lead capacity where they had responsibility for interim reporting, issue resolution, setting direction and had accountability for results
Physical Requirements:
- Good visual acuity and ability to communicate.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds and ability push/pull a minimum of 30 pounds, which includes the lifting, pushing and/or pulling of medical supplies and equipment and the transferring and repositioning of patients.  Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling are undertaken which exceeds these minimum requirements.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to speak, read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple competing demands while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
Environmental Conditions:
- Indoor, temperature controlled, smoke-free environment.  Occasional outdoor exposure.
- Exposure or potential exposure to blood and body fluids may be required.
- Handicapped accessible.
- May work under stressful circumstances at times.
Proficiency or Productivity Standards:
- Meets established attendance standards.
- Adheres to hospital/department dress code including wearing ID badge.
- May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines. 
- May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.
- Will be required to work as necessary during disaster situations, i.e., before, during or after a disaster.
- May be required to stay after workday to assist after a disaster situation until relief arrives.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
