POSITION PURPOSE

The Patient Safety Specialist assists Risk Management staff to promote and integrate individual and organizational behaviors, based upon shared beliefs and values, that continuously seek to minimize patient harm which may result from the process of care delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles of patient safety and process improvement.
  • Assists with coordination and facilitation of the Patient Safety Task Force activities (calls and annual meetings).
  • Facilitates regional Safe Table calls quarterly.
  • Assists with coordination and facilitation of Patient Safety Organization activities.
  • Reviews trends and best practices from RL Solutions, RCAs, PSO documents and other sources and provides feedback to all hospitals.
  • Serves as resource for hospitals on issues related to patient safety.
  • Works with regional DQRs to assist with safety issues.
  • Stays current on safety science and best practices.
  • Facilitates post litigation evaluations.

Qualifications:

License or Certification:

  • License or certification in related field

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

Machines, Equipment Used:

  • General office equipment such as computer/laptop, telephone, copy/fax machine, calculator, scanner, etc.
  • Microsoft Office software, to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual acuity, speech recognition, speech clarity.
  • Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 15 pounds. Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling exceeds these minimum requirements.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Oral communication, written communication, fluency in English, active listening.
  • Information ordering, deductive reasoning, social perceptiveness, time management, critical thinking.
  • Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.
  • Ability to work independently without continuous supervision.

Proficiency or Productivity Standards:

  • Has regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and punctuality.

  • May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and/or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines.
  • May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.
