Position Purpose:

The Benefits Consultant III understands the department functions and contributes in the activity related to the benefits plan administration. The position is familiar with the roles and responsibilities of the Consultants. In addition, the position coordinates the activity for implementing new plans and programs, training and troubleshooting processes; to include the annual benefits enrollment process. The position ensures adequate scheduling of the Benefits telephone call center and Employee Benefits emails to monitor and ensure excellent customer service is provided to customers. 


The Benefits Consultant III monitors eligibility activities related to the Affordable Care Act mandate; as well, as all other benefit plans. This is a team lead position that partners with the HR Leadership Team (HRLT) to work on special projects to maintain the health and welfare plans.


Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Provides guidance, training and support to HR Directors (HRD).
  • Helps others understand and implement benefit plans, programs, and various incentives.
  • Interprets and enforces federal regulations – ERISA, FMLA, COBRA and Health Care Reform
  • Provides support and assistance in the retention of existing employees.
  • Initiates funding of millions of dollars to carriers for claims, premiums, and 401(k) contributions.
  • Maintains accurate benefits records in the corporate recordkeeping system.
  • Assists in meeting personal or departmental goals or deadlines.
  • Participates in annual enrollment process and performs activities assigned.
  • Educates HRD as well as employees on enrollment process and plan or policy changes.
  • Completes special projects and other duties as requested to support needs of organization.
  • Keeps up-to-date with industry technologies for enhancing job responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • More than 5 years of HR/Benefits related experience required
  • PeopleSoft experience required.

Machines, Equipment Used:

  • General office equipment such as computer/laptop, telephone, copy/fax machine, calculator, scanner, etc.
  • Microsoft Office software, to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual acuity, speech recognition, speech clarity.
  • Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 15 pounds. Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling exceeds these minimum requirements.
