Facilities Management Director

Job Description

The Facilities Management Director is responsible for ensuring that the rehabilitation hospital, satellite clinic(s) and all related building systems and equipment are installed and maintained in accordance Joint Commission standards and applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. In addition, this position coordinates and conducts the Environment of Care/Safety meetings and may serve as Safety Officer ensuring compliance with all regulatory agency requirements. The Director coordinates and oversees preventive and corrective maintenance programs per the standards in the industry and equipment manufacturers' recommendations. 

In addition to these hospital-based responsibilities, the Facilities Management Director assists the Regional Facilities Management Director, as necessary or assigned, with the following at other hospitals in the region: regulatory compliance, work order system(s) and operation, building repair and maintenance, budgeting, precepting, interim coverage, first impressions and/or cleanliness of the hospital. The Facilities Management is also responsible for assisting the Regional Facilities Management Director to create an environment and culture that enables hospitals to fulfill the mission by meeting or exceeding its goals, conveying the organization's mission to staff, holding staff accountable for performance, and motivating staff to improve performance.

License or Certification:
- Membership in state or national Healthcare Engineering Association preferred
- CHFM preferred
- Valid driver's license
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and/or 5-7 years of hospital maintenance and/or construction experience in a healthcare setting required
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience
- 5 years of current experience in facility equipment and systems operation (chiller, steam boilers, hydronic systems, building controls, electrical, and air handlers) in a health care institution
- Broad knowledge of TJC Standards, OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other government, state, and local regulatory agencies standards
Machines, Equipment Used:
- General office equipment such as computer/laptop, telephone, copy/fax machine, calculator, scanner, etc.
- Microsoft Office software, to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Physical Requirements: 
- Visual acuity, speech recognition, speech clarity.
- Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 40 pounds including tools, supplies, and equipment. Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling are undertaken which exceeds these minimum requirements.
- Ability to demonstrate safe retrieval skills from above head to floor level with objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to tolerate frequent position changes such as twisting, stooping, reaching, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, and bending positions for complete shift.
- Ability to work on ladders and scaffolds and be able to sit, stand, and walk for momentary to extended periods of time.
- Ability to safely work with hazardous materials.

Environmental Conditions:
- Indoor, temperature controlled, smoke-free environment. Outdoor exposure.
- Exposure or potential exposure to blood and body fluids may be required.
- Handicapped accessible.
- May work under stressful circumstances at times.
Proficiency or Productivity Standards:
- Has regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Adheres to dress code including wearing ID badge.
- Adheres to Standards of Business Conduct.
- May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and/or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines.
- May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Will be required to work as necessary during disaster situations, i.e., before, during or after a disaster.
- May be required to stay after workday to assist after a disaster situation until relief arrives.
