Voice Systems Engineer IV

Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Voice Systems Engineer IV is a subject matter expert and supervisor-level position responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of voice systems through monitoring performance metrics, maintaining servers and software, updating servers and software, and supporting technical incidences and user management. This person will have the added responsibilities of supervising and developing employees, leading complex system administration projects, support tasks, developing expertise in a specific technology or technical area, and ensuring regulatory compliance.


Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Completes supervisory tasks.
    • Completes employee evaluations, sets employee goals, and develops employees.
    • Takes Management vision/directions and turns them into actions.
    • Manages resources and timelines to meet project and business objectives.
  • Monitors performance metrics.
  • Maintains and updates servers and software.
  • Supports data and system needs of users and documents appropriately.
  • Supports technical incidents and user management.
  • Knows how to warehouse data, backup and recovery.
  • Configures databases.
  • Designs prototypes.
  • Defines data and system requirements.
  • Performs ad hoc troubleshooting.


*This is an in-office position at our Home Office in Birmingham, AL




License or Certification:

  • Valid state driver’s license.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience.
  • Associates Degree or Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Relevant Information Technology certifications preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance, including HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, Privacy and Security, PCI
  • Advanced, demonstrated understanding in the following competency areas:
    • Troubleshooting abilities in a multi-tier architecture
    • Manage and maintain site-related documentation
    • Produce progress, problem and status reports, as required by management
    • Manage service providers for prompt problem resolution
    • Incident Management, Change management and Problem Management
    • Hardware installation, configuration and maintenance
    • Software installation, configuration and maintenance
    • Performance monitoring and tuning
    • System backup and recovery methods
    • Disaster recovery processes
    • Group interaction, influence, and leadership to accomplish tasks and solve technical problems
    • Large-scale project/effort management
    • Peer mentoring and coaching
    • Capacity planning
    • Large-scale infrastructure design and implementation
    • Research and recommendation of innovations, automations, and approaches
    • Creation and enforcement of standards
    • Presentation of solutions to management
    • Supervisory tasks
  • Supervisory abilities as well as experience in design, implementation, administration, and support of two or more of the following technologies:
    • Voice Technologies and Services
    • Voice over IP (VoIP)
    • SIP
    • ISDN PRI
    • Cisco Unified Communications
    • POTS
    • DID
    • PBX and Voice Mail Systems
    • Avaya
    • Toshiba
    • Other
    • Call Center Technologies
    • Automatic Call Distribution (ACD)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cisco Certifications
  • Packet Capture and Analysis experience
  • Networking experience
